Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Your first appointment includes a detailed consultation where we’ll discuss your health history, current concerns, and treatment goals. From there, we’ll proceed with a tailored treatment, which may involve body work such as cupping or Gua Sha, acupuncture, herbal medicine, or a combination. I wrote a detailed, step-by-step post about what to expect in your first consultation, you can read it here.

How long does an acupuncture session last?

Initial appointments are 75-90 minutes, allowing ample time for an in-depth consultation, body work and treatment. Follow-up appointments are 45-60minutes.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

Acupuncture is a results-based therapy with a cumulative effect, so regular sessions are important. The exact number of sessions you’ll need will be determined during your initial appointment, based on your individual needs.

Can I claim acupuncture on my health insurance?

Yes, acupuncture is covered by many private health insurance providers. Please check with your insurer for your level of cover. I provide invoices/receipts that you can use to claim your rebate.

How do I prepare for my treatment?

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. It’s a good idea to have a meal 1-2 hours before your appointment and ensure you are hydrated.

What conditions do you treat?

I often work with menstrual problems, infertility, chronic and acute pain, digestive complaints, mental health issues, and sleep disturbances. However, Chinese medicine can benefit a wide range of health concerns. Feel free to contact me if you’re unsure whether acupuncture can help you.

My blood tests are normal, but I don’t feel right. Is acupuncture for me?

Yes, acupuncture can address underlying imbalances that may not show up on medical tests but still cause discomfort. Many people find relief from symptoms that conventional medicine might overlook.

Can acupuncture help with hormone imbalances?

Absolutely. Research has shown acupuncture supports the endocrine system and helps regulate hormone levels. It's often used to treat conditions such as PMS, irregular periods, thyroid imbalances, and hormone-related fertility issues by promoting better communication within the body.

Can acupuncture help with menstrual cramps or irregular cycles?

Yes, acupuncture is known to be effective in treating menstrual cramps and regulating cycles. It increases blood flow, reduces inflammation, and helps balance hormones, which can alleviate pain and promote regular, balanced cycles.

Can Chinese Medicine promote weight loss?

Yes, acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine have been shown to support weight loss by improving digestion, reducing stress levels, and balancing hormones. It can also boost energy levels and help control cravings, aiding in overall healthy weight management.
